2016 Hunter Valley Trophy Winners Revealed

Winners of the 2016 Hunter Valley Wine Show were announced at the Crowne Plaza, Hunter Valley today.

Chairman of the Judges, PJ Charteris, said the standout from the entries tasted this year was the region’s semillon.

“The 2016 semillons were nothing short of exceptional!” Charteris said.

Despite a challenging vintage, Charteris said that winemakers in the Hunter are remaining committed to putting quality first. In the face of adversity, the region’s winemakers in 2016 have produced “really good fruit expressive, ready to drink wines,” Charteris added.

The winner of this year’s Best Current Semillon was First Creek Wines 2016 Single Vineyard Murphy Semillon.

In total the show saw 59 gold, 108 silver and 208 bronze medals awarded, as well as 24 trophies.

Show President David Flynn said it was fantastic result for the Hunter.

“Once again we’ve seen the longevity and quality of our Semillons demonstrated with 2009 vintage taking out the Best White of Show Trophy.
