New De Bortoli Release: La Bohème The Missing Act

The Missing Act is the latest release from De Bortoli Wines’ popular La Bohème range. Following on from Act One, Two, Three and Four, The Missing Act - in an unusual twist - is an alternative blend of cabernet sauvignon and sangiovese.

The new wine has richness, balance, gentle tannins and character; a delightful mix of spicy, blackcurrant notes and flavours of cherries, plums, liquorice and rosemary.

La Bohème is the name of Giacomo Puccini’s famous four-part opera. According to legend, there was one act that the Italian composer decided to never used. The Missing Act, or so it is called, was described as a late night, all night open air party, and gave De Bortoli winemakers Sarah Fagan and Andy Bretherton the inspiration to try something fun with the new release.

The wine consists of 87 per cent cabernet and 13 per cent sangiovese - a blend the winery likes to call as a “traditional variety turned on its head and an interesting injection of a non traditional variety in Sangiovese.”

The wine spent 12 months in new and used French casks, resulting in lots of flavour and texture. This is perfect for share plates or tapas style food and like all wine - should be enjoyed now. Alternatively, it could be cellared for 3-6 years.
