Taittinger Releases First Vintage Made Under Family Management

Champagne Taittinger’s Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs is one of the most prestigious and anticipated releases made by the house. Comtes is the ultimate expression of Taittinger’s 280-year-old style and is only released in years when the vintage is of exceptional quality (so far 2004 and 2005).

The latest release is from the 2006 vintage and is made from 100 per cent chardonnay from five of the very best Grand Crus (Azive, Le Menil sur Oger, Oger, Cramant and Chouilly) in the Côtes des Blancs, Champagne. The 2006 also represents the first vintage that was made under family management, following the buyback of the Taittinger brand by Pierre-Emmanuel Taittinger in that same year.

This is maturity and finesse in a glass. Fine, light bubbles rise steadily to form a delicate ring of foam. The nose initially presents a fresh, refined tangerine-like fruitiness, before developing into more mature notes of ripe fruit, raisin pastries and candied fruit. On the palate, the attack is both smooth and very lively. The mid-palate is supple, full-bodied and rich, with flavours of grapefruit, while the finish is long and refined, with a hint of spice.

The 2006 Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs will be available from the end of November, retailing for $349.99. Contact your McWilliam’s Wines representative for stock.
