Limited Edition Ardbeg Twenty One

In celebration of Ardbeg’s future and a nod to its arduous begginings, The Limited Edition Ardbeg Twenty One has just been released. Distilled 21 years ago during the whisky’s uncertain times, the expression is a gift from generations’ past to the Ardbeg Committee for its continual investment in the distillery.

Ardbeg began in a remote Scottish island home during the mid-1990s. Seeing that distilling was rapidly diminishing, the small team put away casks with the brand’s future in mind. Without knowing the true significance of their actions, the team set Ardbeg Twenty One on its journey.

Fast forward to the Glenmore Company having taken control of Ardbeg, the whisky was able to rise once more. Presently, 120,000 members across 130 companies make up the Ardbeg Committee, formed to keep the distillery alive and thriving into the future. Now, the 21 year-old casks will be offered to these members in appreciation of their support and celebration of the brand’s tenacity.

Mickey Heads, Chairman of the Ardbeg Committee, said, “Ardbeg Twenty One is a shining example of Ardbeg’s enduring spirit. I’m so pleased we can share it with our members. The Committee have invested much in ensuring the future of the Distillery and it’s only right that they should share the rewards of its turbulent past too.”

Dr Bill Lumsden, Director of Distilling, Whisky Creation & Whisky Stocks at Ardbeg, added, “Born from adversity, Ardbeg Twenty One is the perfect dram to celebrate the resilience of Ardbeg and The Ardbeg Committee’s enduring loyalty.I selected the casks for this sumptuous, golden whisky as they combine the distinctive, peppery smokiness of Ardbeg’s award-winning malt with soothing, buttery qualities.”

90 units of Ardbeg Twenty One will be made available to Australian Committee Members. Committee members can register their interest to purchase on 22 September 2016.
