Court of Master Sommeliers Oceania Registrations Open

Registration has now opened for the 2016 Court of Master Sommeliers Introductory and Certified accreditation program, to be offered in Sydney and Melbourne this June.

The Introductory Course and Exam will take place in Sydney, at the ivy Sunroom, 330 George Street, between Wednesday 8th - Friday 10th of June. The certified exam will take place on the Friday.

Melbourne will host the Introductory Course and Exam between Sunday 12th - Tuesday 14th of June with the Certified Exam to be held on the Tuesday. Both will be held at the Intercontinental – The Rialto, 495 Collins Street.

The first Court of Master Sommelier courses were held in Australia in 2008. Since then in Australia, 789 sommeliers have participated in the examinations resulting in 506 Introductory Sommelier graduates, 221 Certified Sommelier graduates, 17 Advanced Level Master Sommeliers and just two who have attained the title of Master Sommelier - Franck Moreau MS (Merivale) and Sebastian Crowther MS (Rockpool 1989). Worldwide there are currently just 230 Sommeliers who have gained the highly coveted title of Master Sommelier.

The Court of Master Sommeliers was established in 1977 to promote excellence in hotel, restaurant and club beverage services. The intensive education and examination programme guides aspiring Masters through four increasingly rigorous levels of coursework and examination, culminating in the highly prestigious Master Sommelier Diploma Examination.

Franck Moreau MS said, “We’re thrilled to offer Court of Master Sommeliers Certification in Melbourne for the first time in three years and to be partnering with InterContinental Melbourne The Rialto in Melbourne and Merivale in Sydney to make these courses possible. There is strong demand for CMS certification throughout Victoria from sommeliers and beverage professionals. We’ve been overwhelmed by demand for Court of Master Sommelier certification in Australia. The 2015 Sydney courses were fully booked with extensive waitlists.”
